SUBSONIC 6.5 Creedmoor- New Hornady brass, Hornady 160 grain RN @ 1040 fps in 22″. Priced per 50 rounds. This bullet requires a 1:8″ twist (or faster) to fully stabilize. A 1:8.5″ twist will give oblong, egg shaped holes on your target at 100 yards, but still shoots decent. (See my notes about bullets below!) Priced per 100 rounds

Why use a 160 grain RN (round nose or soft point) flat base bullet, instead of a BTHP or match bullet? When shooting at subsonic speeds, bullet stability becomes a huge factor for the bullet to properly stabilize and for it to shoot well. Bullet length is a major factor in how stable a bullet is out of the muzzle. In a given twist rate (like a 1:8″ barrel twist in a 6.5 CM) and slow subsonic speeds, this 160 grain RN bullet is shorter with a flat base is much more stable than a lighter and longer BTHP match bullet is of the same weight. The 160 grain RN flat base is a much shorter bullet than a similar weight BTHP bullet, like a 130 or 140 grain Berger, Sierra MatchKing, or similar BTHP bullet that other subsonic ammunition might be found with. This allows the 160 grain RN flat base to be much more stable and have the potential to be more accurate at subsonic speeds than any BTHP design. And why would you want a lighter match bullet that is almost unstable at subsonic speeds? You want more weight at subsonic speeds for more energy on target!! BC (ballistic coefficient) is for supersonic flight, and does not matter at subsonic speeds. Having a high BC bullet at subsonic speeds does not benefit the shooter at all. This is why the 160 RN flat base bullet is best in a subsonic round!
